Data acquisition systems—comprising Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) and Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs)—are essential components in modern electronics, enabling seamless interfacing between the analog world and digital processing. This presentation offers a comprehensive overview of the evolving data acquisition landscape, highlighting market growth driven by applications in 5G, automotive, IoT, medical, and aerospace sectors. With increasing demands for speed, resolution, and power efficiency, designers face challenging trade-offs, especially as designs move to advanced technology nodes. Technical issues such as clock jitter, noise, SoC integration complexity, and analog yield variability add further design and manufacturing hurdles. Nonetheless, innovation is thriving—driven by AI-assisted calibration, hybrid converter architectures, and integrated AFE+DSP solutions—while open hardware trends are democratizing access to converter IP. The talk concludes with insights into recent publication trends in performance and power optimization, and a forward-looking perspective on next-generation data acquisition systems and state-of-the-art solutions.
